Just a few thoughts on what makes a 'great' editor...
1. A sharp eye for detail, and organizational abilities.
2. Attune to format requirements according to project style & brand.
3. They are a gatekeeper, ensuring your brand or theme have clarity.
4. They will tell you if there are gaps or inconsistencies that detract from the message.
5. Ensures that sentences are structurally sound.
6. Fact-checks names of places & people, checks references & footnotes.
7. Can envision a structure for an article when none seems to exist.
8. Is a critical thinker: recognizes and evaluates good writing...AND can figure out how to make the most of not-so-good-writing.
9. Questions anything that seems incorrect or suspicious.
10. Explains why changes are needed.
11. Knows how to approach a topic- if it will work or not, and why.
